Beacon Pines is a charming little mystery game set in the quiet town of Beacon Pines. It unfolds a charming mystery in which we meet two characters, Luka and Rolo, who are attempting to solve the mystery of Luka’s mother’s disappearance from the comforts of their small town. As they get into mischief, much like Sherlock and Watson, you find yourself engulfed in a cute little story that will proudly give you all of the feels.
One of the things that I enjoy about this game is the art style. It is one of the most beautiful games I have had the luxury to play second only to “Spritfarer”. It’s like taking a walk in a watercolor graphic novel. The fact that the characters are these cutesy little animals with potty mouths and crude humor makes the game a definite good time for adults. I found myself laughing hysterically at so many relatable parts. Especially when Beck’s moms are trying to make friends for their daughter. Speaking of Beck’s mom. It felt so good having characters in the story that were members of the LGBTQAI. They made them an integral part of the story and didn’t just put them there to fill some kind of queer quota.
The game checks off many boxes, especially with the story having this mystery and creepy component. They put this in such a cute little package that when the creepiness starts it catches you off guard. But, the music does such a good job of making you feel a level of uneasiness. Similar to that feeling you usually get when watching horror movies or playing horror games.
The development team, Hiding Spot made an excellent decision by making your choices affect the outcome. For example, depending on what charms you collect can affect how your story will end up. Adding to the overall mystery of the game. I like how accessible this game is when it comes to choices. You don’t have to start completely from the beginning if you want to change an unfavorable outcome. Also if you don’t make the best choice at the end of the chapter. I love how the game encourages you to go back and make new choices for different outcomes.

The typical completionist spends six hours playing the game. On average the main story is 5 hours to complete (according to Game Pass). It’s definitely worth the time I spent on the game. Also if it wasn’t on Game Pass it is definitely worth the $19.99 price tag. Since I am a completionist player it has 10 secret achievements that you might have to use the internet to unlock, while this doesn’t bother me I know it might upset or annoy some of you.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this game and I am very happy that I took a chance on Game Pass and found this little gem. I hope this is just the beginning for Luka and the crew because I would follow them to the ends of the earth helping them solve all of the mysteries that Beacon Pines has to offer. Curl up with your favorite blanket and a glass of hot tea and enjoy the beautiful game that is Beacon Pines.
