Bandit Trap from PM Studios was another pleasant surprise at Summer Game Fest Play Days. It’s a 3 vs 1 multiplayer party game where you either play as a Trapper or a team of three Bandits. The gameplay reminded me of Luigi’s Mansion or a much more family-friendly version of Tecmo’s Deception.
I didn’t get a chance to play as a Trapper, but the Bandit gameplay was fluid. As a Bandit, you pick some gear, perks, and a spawn location. Destroying objects is a blast – a mini-game pops up that depends on the tool used. The game provided helpful reminders of which equipment was useful in a particular situation. For example, a jackhammer is unlikely to be very effective against a door. The goal is to use a scanner to scan items in the room, and if a treasure is revealed, destroy the item.

The game quickly gets chaotic because the Trapper is running around adding and combining traps. This is also where the physics engine shines – all maps are highly destructible. I learned that when a series of traps send my Bandit crashing into a wall and flying out of the house.
Key Features
- BOOBYTRAP: Setup tons of boobytraps to defend your house from storming bandits. Use the Trapper Towers to keep watch and strategically place a wide variety of traps hidden in furniture.
- DEFEND: Activate your traps remotely from Trapper Towers or enter trapped furniture and attack bandits directly for more damage. Knock-out the Bandits to 100% Damage to claim victory!
- INVADE: Strategise with your crew, choose the right gear, perks and map out tactics before the match starts. Choose wisely and outsmart the Trapper with the right setup!
- LOOT: Evade traps, fight the Trapper and master a huge variety of scanners and tools to loot hidden treasures. Survive the Trapper attacks and find all 10 hidden treasures to claim victory!
- HIGHLY DYNAMIC & DESTRUCTIBLE LEVELS: The levels in BANDIT TRAP are highly dynamic and destructible—which means no single match will be the same. Blast holes in walls? Check. Propagating water that seeps through cracks to flood rooms? Double check. Turn rooms into ice-rinks? Triple check.
No release date for Bandit Trap has been announced; however, a demo is available on Steam. You can also request access to join the Bandit Trap Playtest.
