We come ever closer to the full launch of Baldur’s Gate 3. Since we last covered the release information earlier this year some details have changed. The full PC release is now brought forward. It was originally due on 31st August and now hits PC on 3rd August. The game will be having a global launch so for the UK that means the game unlocks at 4 pm. Though for those in the US, the times are 11 AM Eastern and 8 AM Pacific. While mainland Europe will be 5 pm.
The game as we see on Steam has been in Early Access for nearly three years now. For those unsure about the game the Steam listing may help. We see that “Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power”. Eurogamer also gives us some information on file size and this is where it may cause problems.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Is A Hefty Game – But That Is Only Part Of The Problem
The Steam listing says to allow 150 GB, and that will include space to update the game. The Eurogamer article tells us to expect a file size of 122 GB. Normally, that’s not a problem. A lot of the time, a game will be made available to pre-load, so come launch time, you’re all set to play. For some reason, Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be available to pre-load. It’s frustrating considering it’s not a small game, and for many, this game may take hours to install. We have no idea if the PlayStation 5 release on 6th September will have this same issue. And let’s not forget the Xbox release is not even expected to release till next year either. Hopefully, this will change before the worldwide launch on 3rd August 2023.
