Gamescom 2022 had a night filled to the brim with exciting announcements. From trailers to new information, and release dates for some pretty big games. With a variety of both indie games and triple-A titles on full display. One of the show’s standout moments was the announcement of Atlas Fallen. This is the newest Action RPG coming from developer Deck13 and published by Focus Entertainment.

Game Design Director Jérémy Hartvick elaborates more on what Deck13 aims to accomplish with Atlas Fallen in a PlayStation blog post. He elaborates on their approach towards combat, where they aim for “fast-paced and effects-loaded fights that require skill and timing.“ I encourage you to check out the blog post for more details on the upcoming fantasy adventure.

Game feel is our main concern when it comes to designing Atlas Fallen. We’ve left strict constraints of realism aside to focus on giving a thrilling, overpowering feeling to the game. One of the chief design elements to achieve this is Sand Gliding, which is how the hero will move across the vast world of Atlas Fallen. It’s key to the game’s high mobility system, and it brings amazing speed and verticality to the spectacular action of combats.

The official description:

Rise from the dust and liberate mankind from the oppression of corrupted gods.

Glide the sands of a timeless land, filled with ancient dangers, mysteries, and fragments of the past—Hunt legendary monsters, using powerful, shape-shifting weapons and devastating sand-powered abilities in spectacular, super-powered combat.

Target and gather your enemies’ essence to shape your custom playstyle, forging a new era for humanity in a fully cooperative or solo story campaign.

Rise from the dust. Unleash the storm.

  • Master the sands to explore a unique fantasy world teeming with secrets, locales, and dangers.
  • Hunt legendary creatures alone or with a friend in heroic, super-powered combat.
  • Unleash your power to create deadly shape-shifting weapons.
  • Rise as the ultimate champion with unique custom skills and abilities.

Atlas Fallen looks like a visual spectacle, and if the gameplay is what they say it will be then this is a game to keep on your radar, I know I certainly will. It is set to release in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
