You may be aware of the many troubles within Ubisoft from the numerous stories we have covered recently. Unfortunately, most of the information released recently has been bad news for the company. For example, they had a bad financial report, and as a result, games were canceled and delayed. This led to an email from Yves Guillemot to staff, upsetting the French Trade Union, who issued a statement themselves. This then also led to a strike by Ubisoft staff at the end of January. Amidst all of this, there has been some good news, with a few games to look forward to. Games like The Crew Motorfest, a racer gearing up to take on Forza Horizon, and another entirely into The Crew franchise, and The Settlers New Allies. We also have a console port for Anno 1800 to look forward to. They appear to be going back to their roots with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This is after reinventing the franchise with Assassin’s Creed Origins back in 2017.
Consequently, the current story with Ubisoft actually involves the 2017 release. How is Assassin’s Creed Origins, a game just over five years old, suddenly a talking point? It’s not so much the game as it is the team behind it. Ubisoft Montreal created Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and is currently working on Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. We have seen several staff leave over the past couple of years and now Jean Guesdon follows suit.
Jean Guesdon And The Connection To Assassin’s Creed Origins
Jean was the game’s Creative Director and has confirmed on LinkedIn their departure from the company. They also have Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on their list of titles among other Ubisoft projects. This is what was posted on their profile.
Hello everyone, 2023 will start for me with the end of a bit more than 17 formidable years at Ubisoft Montreal. I can’t express how much I owe to this unique company. So many people met, so many skills learned and so many projects shipped. And Assassin’s Creed, of course Assassin’s Creed… 🙂 Thank you Ubi, very very much !!
Jean Guesdon on leaving Ubisoft
It is too early to tell if this departure will have any impact on the series’ upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Mirage. All in all it’s not been the best start of the year for Ubisoft.
