Deadpool Joins Marvel’s Midnight Suns In DLC Football Manager 23 Finally Gets PS Release Date Over 100 Side Quests In Hogwarts Legacy Is a Smaller PlayStation 5 on the Horizon? I’ll Wait and See System Shock 2 Free With PC Remake Preorders

Back in August 2009, Rocksteady gave us a new take on one of media’s most notable characters for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and a month later for PC. That game was the iconic Batman: Arkham Knight, the first in the Arkham Universe. After that came Batman: Arkham City in 2011 and Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015. Another game in the franchise that was not developed by Rocksteady was the WB Montreal title Arkham: Origins. They also happened to develop the mediocre Gotham Knights while Rocksteady returned to Arkham this year with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The Suicide Squad game also marks the final appearance of the titan and Batman himself Kevin Conroy.

Kevin Conroy voices Batman throughout the Rocksteady trilogy, as he has for the past thirty years in film and television. That was until his death late last year, in 2022. An iconic actor, none other than Mark Hamill himself, voiced the iconic Joker. He is an actor who needs no introduction, equally famous as Luke Skywalker himself. He voiced the Joker at the same time as Kevin Conroy’s Batman. Batman: Arkham Asylum is an action game with a different approach. It focuses on the Dark Knight’s strengths, detective skills, use of the shadows, and stealth.

Batman Arkham Asylum On Today’s Hardware

Arkham Asylum and Arkham Knight were remastered for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They are also playable via backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. For the purposes of this article, all captures were taken on the Xbox Series X. The big question is: how does the game hold up visually today?

Visuals And Performance

As we can see, the game doesn’t look too bad for its age, as character models and textures still hold up well. However, when you look at say Gotham Knights you can see that Rocksteady were held back by hardware limitations. To compare, this is how Gotham Knights runs on the Xbox Series X.

Performance wise, lets look at some gameplay in action.

The game runs smoothly, but it’s not pushing current hardware. It seems even with modern patches and updates that the game is still not running at 60 fps. It doesn’t ruin the gameplay at all, but there should be no reason this can’t run at 60 fps or 120 fps at 1080p. The story is still a fantastic piece of writing with excellent story telling, and the acting is of a high quality. That should be expected with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill involved, though. If you haven’t already played or have them in your library, these are well worth the money today.
