In 1979, A film that would go on to become a classic debuted with a poster that said only one thing: In space, no one can hear you scream. That was the famous line from Ridley Scott’s Alien poster, which was later linked to Alien Isolation. The movie tells us how the ship Nostromo came out of stasis after a distress call from the moon LV-426 and how they answered a distress call from an Alien ship on the surface. One of the crew members, Kane, encounters what we now know as a Face Hugger. This leads to the cinema classic “chest-bursting” scene and the arrival of the Alien, kickstarting a franchise that would last for decades. The only survivors from the Nostromo were Ellen Ripley played by Sigourney Weaver and the character Cat Jones.
The story of Ellen Ripley takes place over several films but set fifteen years later we have the story of Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda. Her story takes place onboard the space station Sevastopol found in the 2014 game Alien Isolation. This also got a TV series in 2019. Amanda is investigating the disappearance of her mother and retrieving the Nostromo’s flight recorder. Amanda has no idea that the Sevastopol is not a friendly place, with danger lurking around every corner and vent. We know of a new Alien title in the works, so in the meantime will this hold your attention?
Is Alien Isolation Any Good In 2023?
Let’s take a look at the graphics, which are nearly a decade old. All screenshots and gameplay are captured on Xbox Series X and are either from the main game or the expansions.
Even today, the game looks good for a 2014 release. When you encounter the iconic alien, it looks very much as you expect. Terrifyingly tall, smart, and fast. The feel of the ship is faithfully recreated and expanded. As we see below, the game plays fluidly with plenty of atmosphere.
The environments are indeed dark but not overwhelmingly so. The capture does appear darker than you would experience while playing. I recommended this game as a perfect Halloween spooky option to scare yourself and the people around you. The famous Xenomorph that terrorized Ripley and the crew on the Nostromo is repeating it here. This again is a fantastic entry into horror games and a worthy addition to the world we were introduced to nearly forty-five years ago. Did you get to experience this when it launched? Do you still play this today? Or is this a game you’re yet to experience? As always we’d love to hear from you. So why not get in touch and share your thoughts? Did you manage to watch the TV series from 2019? If you did would you recommend it to fans of the game and franchise?
