Last year we saw two games confirmed for late 2023. One was Alone in the Dark and the other Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. It was an interesting period as Alone in the Dark has had delays and is due out in a few weeks. Don’t Nods action RPG was delayed till February easing the crammed release schedule over October and November. Now the Don’t Nod title is out we have had a chance to get to grips with the latest action RPG on the block.
So what do we know about Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden? Let’s take a look at what we can see from the official website. We play as a couple of Banishers. They are “spirit hunters, entrusted with the daunting task of lifting a malevolent and ominous curse”. The game takes place in 1695 in a town called New Eden. Sadly a curse has befallen the town and by playing as both our characters need to investigate what’s happened and ultimately reunite both characters. As for the features shown on store listings.
- Play as both Antea and Red, and battle supernatural forces with magic, weapons, and spiritual powers.
- Unlock new gear and abilities to unleash the full power of the Banishers
- Uncover the ancient secrets and hidden mysteries of a mystical, lore-rich world
- Characteristic of renowned studio DON’T NOD, make meaningful and morally ambiguous choices that affect the story, the world, and the fate of all characters, dead or alive

Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden And What The Final Product Is Shaping Up Like
All footage provided here is taken from the PlayStation 5 running in quality mode. The game is also available on PC and Xbox Series X/S. A video of gameplay can be seen below taken from various parts of the start of the game.
So now for the important part, how does the game stack up? Well for one I sat down and immediately sunk several hours into the game. I was finding the story interesting and the game is easy to pick up and play. If you want an RPG that is the complete opposite of the likes of Dark Souls in terms of being unforgiving, this may be for you.

The game takes advantage of Unreal Engine 5 and we can see in many cases the game is stunning. Maybe the game could have worked on some of the character models for NPC but it is so far only minor things, the world looks fantastic. Could we have more variety in enemies faced? Again that’s a maybe. The sound is well done with strong voice work and sound effects. The fact I can sit down and play for hours straight is a testament to the fact I’m enjoying the game.
