We are nearly a couple of weeks from The Game Awards. The Game Awards, the video game industry’s annual year-end celebration, will have its 10th annual show, which will stream live from the Peacock Theater (formerly Microsoft Theater) in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 4:30 pm PT. The games nominated whether you agree or not for the coveted 2023 Game of the Year award are as follows:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Super Mario Wonder
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

So now for my personal choices for game of the year. Please remember this is based on the games played and what I got from them.

My Personal 2023 Game Of The Year Nominees.

I would have chosen two games from that list in mine. If you read my reviews you’ll see I really enjoyed my time with both Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2. Much as the original Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games I’m not a personal fan of remasters or remakes making a Game of the Year. So next year the recent announcement of next year’s The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered won’t make my list much as I loved the game.

However what else would I choose? The first game I’d add alongside the other two is Starfield. It literally offered a Sci-Fi fan everything I needed in an RPG. It captured my attention for the entire launch month. I also was hooked being a Star Wars fan to Jedi Survivor. The story the visuals and the pacing were fantastic and for me deserved a mention.

To Conclude

I did have some other titles that won’t win awards but I feel really deserved a mention. Robocop Rogue City really impressed me and was a worthy addition to the series. The Talos Principle 2 was a fantastic puzzle game that had me hooked from start to finish. The Invincible was a Sci-Fi title I feel will run the risk of going under the radar.

However deciding on my 2023 game of the year was a tough decision. My first strong contender was Starfield. The other two titles that followed were Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2. I absolutely loved Alan Wake 2 and you can read my thoughts here. Though my choice for this year’s Game of the Year just pips our iconic writer. My top game is Spider-Man 2 but it was a close call.
