There are always rumors running rampant, some with more credibility than others. One of those rumors were the long suspected remaster of the James Bond classic 007 GoldenEye. Several staff members from Rare had been spotted with achievements for the game. This is following both Nintendo and Xbox’s summer event, with no sign of the game at either show.
The initial story broke at the start of the year. So yet, there is no word about a release date for the GoldenEye remake. It was just last month since we informed you about the recently observed Rare employees unlocking achievements. At the time of writing, the achievement list was still visible on True Achievements.
Earlier on Twitter Jez Corden from Windows Central was asked if there had been any news. And while he was unable to answer, Jeff Grubb was able to. Namely noting that development has been on hold due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. This hasn’t been the only game affected due to this global crisis, seeing as we recently saw the effect on GDC World and Stalker 2.
One thing we do know is that GoldenEye 007 will celebrate its 25th anniversary on August 25th. It’s a good day to release or provide information if there was one. However, it may be prudent not to get too excited at this point. It’s possible that our next console 007 release will be from IO, with their origin story. So, what are your opinions on the GoldenEye remaster’s story? Do you think it’ll appear later this year or possibly next year? Or is it possible that this will never see the light of day? One thing is certain: fans would desire to know when it will happen.
